Ranges/Ovens

The inspector will inspect the range/oven by operating all of the controls for the burners, and bake/broil operation. The inspector will also check for any damaged door gaskets or rusted out interior cases. One of the most important things to check for is an Anti-Tip bracket pictured below. This bracket is designed to prevent the range from tipping over if the door is opened and a heavy object is placed on the door. Several have commented to me that it is a "minor" item and not important. Although it is a minor item, in cost and size, and in most cases can be obtained from the manufacturer for free, it is important.

There have also been several lawsuits regarding this device as well as injuries and even death.

From the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission:

Average of 22 deaths per year;
31 in 2006 and an estimated 3,000 injuries
